Visit to The Original Pancake House

One of my favorite places to eat breakfast in Denver is The Original Pancake House. Usually you have to wait about 30-40 minutes to get seated, but it’s always worth it – especially when you order their Bacon Pancakes!

Description:
Buttermilk pancakes filled with real bits of bacon. Served with whipped butter and warmed syrup.

These pancakes are absolutely delicious and it’s the perfect mixture of pancake, bacon and maple syrup – you can’t go wrong! I am currently looking for a recipe to duplicate these pancakes at home. If you just so happen to have a bacon pancake recipe I would love to feature it! Please submit it in the submit form.

Until I find a recipe, it looks like I’ll just have to keep going to The Original Pancake House! Have you ever had bacon pancakes? Would you try them?

Bacon Bomb Shot – Can you Handle It?

A HUGE shout-out to Jamie K. for submitting the first recipe to my blog! Jamie recommended the Bacon Bomb Shot – a mixture of chardonnay, Red Bull, Jameson and, of course, bacon.I figured that the best time for me to test this mixture was during a BBQ for the Sunday Broncos game. Below is are my friends (a.k.a. Guinea Pigs) and they were kind enough to try this shot with me!

While Matt wasn’t a huge fan of this shot (he doesn’t like wine very much), I was pleasantly surprised and would definitely have another! Of course, it’s not called Krista’s ratings.. so Matt gave it 2 stars. Boo on him!

Try this shot (if you’re over the age of 21) and in the comments below, let me know what rating you would give the Bacon Bomb!

Bacon Maple Muffins – To Eat or Not to Eat?

This weekend I came across a bacon maple muffin recipe and while it only had a 2-star rating I was hoping to spice it up with my own cooking magic to bring these muffins to life. If you think about it, bacon, maple syrup and muffins are a perfect breakfast combination… or at least I thought so…

Bacon maple muffins, the perfect breakfast treat.... right? See if you can take this recipe and add your spin on it. The muffins turned out pretty bland for me, but if you have suggestions to enhance it please leave a comment!

*Matt's Note: I had to give it 1 star because at least I didn't spit it out.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk (the original recipe called for 1/2, but I ended up adding 1 cup)
  • 2/3 cup canola oil (the original recipe called for 1/2 cup, but I added more)
  • 2/3 cup maple syrup (I used cinnamon maple syrup to add more flavor)
  • 8 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled
  • Additional Items
  • Muffin pan
  • Wire racks for cooling

Instructions

  1. Pre-heat oven to 400°.
  2. Grease a muffin pan with Pam or Crisco.
  3. Cook bacon in a large skillet.
  4. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder and salt.
  5. In another bowl, combine the egg, milk, oil and syrup.
  6. Stir the milk mixture into the dry ingredients and mix together. If the mixture seems a little dry, add a little bit more milk.
  7. Fold in the bacon into the final mixture.
  8. Fill the muffin pan cups two-thirds full.
  9. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick, inserted near the center, comes out clean.
  10. Cool for 5 minutes before moving from pan to wire rack.
  11. Serve warm and refrigerate leftovers.

Have You Ever Heard of Boar Bacon?

I never had, until I visited Edge Restaurant at the Four Seasons Hotel in Denver. I have to give this restaurant a ton of applause because they had just eighty-sixed this menu item and were kind enough to cook up four pieces for me.

Apparently several dining guests complained that the boar bacon was too gamey, but I enjoyed the two bites I got from one of the strips. It’s a shame the bacon is so small, because it was gone in about 30 seconds.

Have you ever tried boar bacon? Did you find it too gamey? What are the best meals to cook with boar bacon?
